Well, that's short sighted of them. What do they think lesbians do for transportation?...Piggyback each other!

It is basic common sense..most gay and lesbians have more disposable income.....more and more are having kids so they are in need of an upgrade....or some late bloomers just coming out at a later age will have better credit and job stabilty......and then there r some of us whose children have grown and we wish to rekindle our youth for a more sporty version...worked for me in the Adult business (I peddled porn for a long while)....hope some of it helped.

This is a great topic. Though I am surprised that your co-workers would say that lesbians and gays DID NOT have good credit and money since the stereotype is actually the opposite so I'm assuming they're just using that excuse to justify discrimmination. I actually did some googling and came up first with an article at Queercents.com called "Gay Affluence: fact, fiction or somewhere in between?". For the most part it was filler content but it did reference a very good article from the April 2006 issue of The Blade called "The Myth of Gay Affluence".

The article cites an in depth study of LGBT wealth by UMass-Amherst Economics professor, Lee Badgett called "Income Inflation: The Myth of Affluence Among Gay, Lesbian and Bis.... In this study, Professor Badgett makes the following points:

1. Lesbians and gays do not earn more than straight people. Just as in the general population, income is spread out over all brackets.

2. Most marketing studies perpetuating the myth of affluent gays are skewed because the sample population that they poll are usually from political action lists, magazine subscriptions, internet polls, and credit card customers that already lean toward urban, white males and ignores the full spectrum of the LGBT community.

3. The theory of more disposable income because of less children is also a myth, especially for lesbians who have children at the same rate as straight women. Around 25% of gay male households have children and around a third of lesbian households do. While this is less than straight households, it's still a significant number.

4. The myth of the affluent gay hurts the fight for LGBT rights as anti-gay activists have used flawed studies to try and prove that we are not a disadvantaged group and that discrimination has not had any real impact on our lives to the point that we need "special protection".

Sorry for the long comment, I hope this and the links will give you some debate ammo.
